Tan Zhemin

Professor TAN Zhemin was appointed President of Nanjing University in April 2023. Prior to this position, he served as Executive Vice President, Vice President, and Associate Vice President of Nanjing University.

Professor TAN is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chair Professor of Meteorology, and Professor of Atmospheric Science at the School of Atmospheric Sciences of NJU. He received his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Degrees in meteorology at NJU in 1985, 1989, and 2000 respectively. He has been a faculty member at NJU since 1989, obtained full professorship in 1999, and served as the Head of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences from 1998 to 2006, and Director of the Key Laboratory of Mesoscale Severe Weather of the Ministry of Education and NJU from 2000 to 2010.

Professor TAN’s research focuses on the fundamental theoretical research in the atmospheric dynamics, tropical cyclone, and atmospheric predictability. He acted as Vice President of the Chinese Meteorological Society, member of the International Commission for Dynamic Meteorology (ICDM), Vice-Chairman of Chinese National Committee for THOPREX, Co-Chair of the Discipline Evaluation Group for Atmospheric Science of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and member of the Advisory Committee of the Earth Science Division of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He now serves as the Chairman of the Chinese National Committee of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP), Vice President of the Chinese National Committee of International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (IAMAS), member of the Chinese National Expert Committee on Climate Change, Director of Atmospheric Sciences Teaching Advisory Committee of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and member of Program Establishment and Teaching Guidance Committee in Higher Education of the Chinese Ministry of Education.
