On October 10, Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with Professor Michael Karin, a distinguished cancer researcher, member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine. They discussed the promotion of academic exchange and collaboration between the two institutions.
Tan warmly welcomed Professor Karin and expressed high appreciation for his outstanding contributions in the field of life sciences. Tan gbriefly introduced the latest developments at Nanjing University, and highlighted the new Suzhou campus and its global engagement. He also introduced the growth of biomedical disciplines and the Institute of Modern Biology (IMB) at NJU. He also invited Professor Karin and his colleagues to join in more academic exchanges and collaborations with NJU.
Professor Karin expressed his delight in visiting NJU and thanked the university for the thoughtful arrangements made for his visit. He shared insights about the undergraduate and graduate education at the University of California, San Diego, as well as its scientific research. He praised NJU's achievements in the biological sciences and the development of IMB.
After the meeting, Professor Karin delivered a speech titled "Metabolic Control of Liver Cancer Emergence from Diet Damaged and Senescent Hepatocytes." Professor Karin also visited IMB’s newly opened laboratory and participated in academic exchanges with the institute's scholars and researchers.
