Bronze statue of Cao Xueqin unveiled in Mogilev, Belarus

On June 29, 2024, a bronze statue of Cao Xueqin, created by Professor Wu Weishan from Nanjing University, was unveiled in Friendship Park, Mogilev, Belarus. The 2.6-meter-high statue, gifted by Nanjing to Mogilev, symbolizes the cultural exchange and deep friendship between China and Belarus. 

Nanjing and Mogilev established a friendly cooperative relationship in 2014. In recent years, the two cities have engaged in diverse and multifaceted exchanges and collaborations.

Cao Xueqin is the author of the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber (also known as The Story of the Stone). This 18th-century novel is one of China's Four Great Classical Novels and is highly regarded for its intricate portrayal of Chinese society, culture, and family dynamics during the Qing Dynasty. 

Cao Xueqin grew up in Nanjing and Nanjing is largely considered to be the inspiration for Dream of the Red Chamber.

Wu Weishan, a prominent figure in Chinese art, has received numerous international awards and honors. His works are displayed in nearly 30 countries.
