On June 25, 2024, the 15th International Ibsen Conference was convened at Nanjing University, China. The conference was hosted by Nanjing University, co-hosted by University of Oslo, organized by School of Arts, School of Foreign Languages, and Institute of Global Humanities at Nanjing University, and co-organized by Center for Ibsen Studies of the University of Oslo.
During the opening ceremony, Deputy Secretary Chen Yunsong warmly welcomed the guests, highlighted the rich history and humanistic heritage of Nanjing University, and expressed wishes for the conference's success. Deputy Consul General Solfrid Dahl Helgesen expressed gratitude to Nanjing University for facilitating the event and envisioned future international collaborations between Chinese and Norwegian universities. Dean He Chengzhou praised Chinese scholars for their significant contributions to Ibsen Studies and Global Literature Studies. Prof. Lisbeth Wærp also extended heartfelt thanks to the guests and acknowledged the support from Nanjing University and the International Ibsen Committee.
The theme of this year's conference, "Intermedial Ibsen," attracted over 200 submissions worldwide, addressing the latest developments in intermedial research on literature and art. Topics included the portrayal of artists in Ibsen's plays, the integration of various artistic disciplines in his works, film adaptations, and cross-cultural theatrical performances. Twelve panels were organized, moderated by distinguished scholars from different universities.
Nanjing University aims to leverage this conference to enhance its internationalization efforts.
