Nanjing National Laboratory of Microstructures (Under Construction)
Nanjing National Laboratory of Microstructures (NNLM) is a large research center characterized by interdisciplinary research. It is mainly composed of the National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures and the State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, in collaboration with resources of research institutions like Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Nano Technology and Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Photonic and Electronic Materials Sciences and Technology. It integrates seven national key disciplines (e.g., condensed matter physics, theoretical physics, inorganic chemistry) and 11 doctoral disciplines (e.g., optics, material physics and chemistry, organic chemistry) of Nanjing University.
As a major research center for quantum control of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s National Basic Research Program, NNLM currently focuses on the study of microstructures, quantum manipulation, and molecular engineering. It also covers basic and applied research of physics, chemistry, materials science and electronic science. Oriented towards international cutting-edge research and national needs, NNLM is committed to conducting high-level research, building itself into a world-class interdisciplinary laboratory with high-level experimental research facilities and well-qualified scientific and technical personnel. At present, NNLM has 7 research directions:
Artificial microstructure physics and engineering
Quantum physics and the associated electronics
Molecular photoelectric functional system
Super-molecule, nano-structure and its devices
Structure and function of soft matter
Material design and theoretical calculation of microstructure
Microstructure-based high and new technology and its application
With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Provincial Government, and Tang Zhongying Foundation, NNLM now has a building area of 42,000 m2, equipped with advanced high-precision devices and instruments. It has a high-level research team consisting of 12 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 “Global Experts Program” talents, 20 special professors of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program,” 26 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund Award, 4 teams with the title “Innovation Group” by the National Natural Science Foundation, and 2 teams with the title “Innovation Group” by the Ministry of Education. Since 2002, members of NNLM have received many awards, including 9 second prizes and 1 first prize of the National Natural Science Award. NNLM is now holding 5 projects of the National Basic Research Program, 5 projects of the “973 Program.”
