National Resource Center for Mutant Mice of China

The National Resource Center for Mutant Mice of China (NRCMM) was established in 2001 for promoting the generation and sharing of mouse disease models. It composes three units: the transgenic core for helping both scientific community and industry partners to develop suitable models for biomedical research and drug development; the resource core that emphasizes the production, marketing and conservation of thousands of mouse and rat strains; the phenotyping core that focuses on developing new in vivo assays for the functional analysis of mouse physiology parameters.

The organization of NRCMM has evolved quickly for the past decade. However, its overall mission remains unchanged: that is, developing new technologies and animal models to facilitate the global efforts at better human health. NRCMM has generated the first knockout mice in China with ES recombination based technology. It has also participated in the creation of first genome-edited monkey and dog by CRISPR/Cas9 technology in the world.

NRCMM is affiliated with Nanjing Biomedical Research Institute of Nanjing University as an independent legal entity. It is localized in the National High-Tech Park of Nanjing in Pukou District. It is also in close collaboration with the Model Animal Research Center of Nanjing University.

Currently, NRCMM holds more than 3,500 mouse strains and has been an AAALAC International accredited institute since 2006. It is one of the seven national laboratory animal resource facilities designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology. As part of the global initiative for shared animal resource facilities, it is also a core member of the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium, a founding member of the Asian Mouse Mutagenesis and Resource Association, and a founding member of the Chinese Consortium for Mouse Resource Sharing.
