Professor Shen Shuzhong wins “The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Awards of Scientific and Technological Progress”

On February 17, 2023, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation held its 2021 and 2022 Award Presentation Ceremony at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. During the ceremony, Professor Shen Shuzhong, a Nanjing University professor, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was presented with the prestigious “The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Awards of Scientific and Technological Progress” for the year 2022.

Professor Shen Shuzhong’s primary research focus is on Permian stratigraphy, brachiopod paleontology, mass extinction, and environmental changes. He has held numerous leadership positions in the field, including serving as the Chairman of the Permian Subcommission of the International Commission on Stratigraphy, and presently serving as the Vice-Chairman of the International Commission on Stratigraphy.

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is a Hong Kong-based non-government organization which annually bestows prizes upon Chinese scientists. It was established by patriotic financial industrialists in Hong Kong on March 30, 1994. The Foundation grants awards once a year, and over the past 29 years, it has recognized 1,526 exceptional scientists. The Foundation serves as a successful example of a science and technology award created by social forces in China, and it has played a positive role in stimulating the vitality of scientific and technological development and cultivating independent innovation talents in the country.
