On the morning of November 23, 2023, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and his delegation visited NJU. Tan Zhemin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of NJU warmly welcomed the delegation at Gulou Campus.

Tan provided an overview of the university. He highlighted NJU’s active role in international exchanges and collaborations, and emphasized the longstanding history of engagement with Russia, dating back to the 1950s and 1960s when NJU’s professors and students studied in Russia. Currently, Nanjing University has established partnerships with nine prominent Russian universities and research institutes, including Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Vorodin expressed gratitude for the visit to NJU. He recognized the crucial role of high-quality higher education in driving economic growth, technological progress, and innovation, and hoped for an increased collaboration between Russia and China in higher education. He believed such collaboration would deepen friendship, build mutual trust, and contribute significantly to the ongoing development of Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for this new era.

During his visit, Vorodin also engaged with Russian students at NJU, representatives from NJU Department of Russian Language and Literature, and members of NJU Center of Russian Studies.
