On June 15, Tan Zhemin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of NJU, met with Dr. Jill McGovern, a member of the Hopkins-Nanjing Council, Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The meeting was also attended by Wang Zhenlin, Standing Member of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU.
Tan warmly welcomed Dr. McGovern and briefed her on the latest progress of NJU in talent cultivation, disciplinary construction, and global engagement efforts. Together with Dr. McGovern, Tan reflected on HNC’s contributions in promoting cultural exchanges between China and the United States. He acknowledged the establishment of HNC as a significant milestone in the collaborationbetween the two universities. He expressed his deep gratitude for the support that Dr. McGovern and her late husband, Steven Muller, the former president of JHU and the founder of HNC, have provided to NJU and HNC over the years. He also reiterated NJU’s unwavering commitment to HNC and its dedication to achieving mutually beneficial cooperation with JHU by promoting educational and youth exchanges between China and the United States.
Dr. McGovern appreciated NJU’s long-standing endorsement and investment in HNC. Having witnessed its establishment and growth, she has developed a deep personal connection with HNC. Dr. McGovern also highlighted the remarkable achievements HNC has made over the past three decades. She wholeheartedly affirmed her willingness to continue promoting and supporting its development.
Currently, Dr. McGovern serves as a member of Board of Advisors, the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at JHU, the SAIS Europe Advisory Council, and the Hopkins-Nanjing Council. She also attended the 2023 Commencement Ceremony of HNC as a keynote speaker.
