On June 20, the 2023 NJU Graduation Ceremony for Undergraduates was held at the Fang Zhaozhou Gymnasium on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Academician of CAS and Secretary of the CPC NJU Committee, and Tan Zhemin, Academician of CAS and President of NJU delivered keynote remarks. Yang Zhong, Executive Deputy Secretary of the CPC NJU Committee, announced several awarding decisions of NJU. Zhang Junfeng, Standing Member of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU, presided over the ceremony.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the NJU National Flag Guard marched into the auditorium.
Tan Tieniu, on his farewell address, conveyed his sincere blessings and expectations to the graduates. He highlighted the remarkable legacy of NJU alumni, who have consistently exemplified qualities such as pragmatism, daring innovation, fearlessness in the face of challenges, and an unwavering dedication to serving society. He encouraged the graduates to strive for excellence in their chosen paths and actively contribute to the construction of a strong nation and the realization of national rejuvenation.
Tan Zhemin extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating class of 2023 and sincere appreciation for the dedicated faculty, staff, and parents. He also warmly welcomed the alumni of the class of 2020 who were unable to have a graduation ceremony during that year. Tan Zhemin emphasized that students are both dream seekers and dream fulfillers and encouraged the graduates to pursue their personal and national aspirations.
Yang Zhong proclaimed NJU’s decision on lauding the exceptional graduating students from the class of 2023, the graduating students who volunteered to serve in the western regions, and the first Qingmiao Awards for the year 2023.
Alumni representative, Qian Dongqi, Founder of Ecovacs Robotics Co., Ltd. and Honorary Trustee of NJU, thoughtfully recounted his days as a student at the Physics and Philosophy Departments of NJU over four decades ago. He extended his warmest congratulations and heartfelt blessings to the graduates and encouraged them to persistently pursue worthy goals and live meaningfully.
Faculty representative, Chen Tianyu, a professor from the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, shared his personal experience of studying abroad and his commitment to advancing science and education in China. He highlighted the vital role of interdisciplinary studies in fostering groundbreaking innovations and technologies, and encouraged the graduates to fearlessly embark on challenging explorations.
Zhuang Zhou, the student representative from the School of Liberal Arts, reflected on the cherished memories she had during her time at NJU, and pledged to strive for progress and excellence to meet and exceed the university’s aspirations in the future.
Led by He Runyang, an undergraduate from the Department of Mathematics, the entire graduationg class of 2023 solemnly vowed to devote their lives to the causes of national rejuvenation and human progress.
Following that, diplomas were awarded to the graduating students. They were filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment, ready to emark on new journey.
More than 3,000 people attended the ceremony, including University Distinguished Professors of Humanities and Social Sciences, Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, university leaders, members of degree evaluation committees, division/office heads from various schools and departments, faculty representatives, the graduating class of 2023, and 224 alumin from the class of 2020.
