On April 7, Integrated Development·Creating Future with Science & Technology— Jiangsu-Hong Kong Cooperation Forum on Innovation of Science and Technology was held at NJU.
Carrie Lam, Former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Honorary Chair of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Jiangsu Province, Henry Tang Ying-yen, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of CPPCC and Founding Chair of the Hong Kong Jiangsu Association, Hu Guangjie, Member of the Party Group and Vice Governor of Jiangsu Provincial Government, Tan Tieniu, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Academician of the CAS, and Secretary of the CPC NJU Committee, He Jing, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Zhang Xiang, Foreign Academician of the CAS, Member of the National Academy of Engineering and President of the University of Hong Kong, Will Yiu Mau Lung, Member of the National Committee of CPPCC and President of the Hong Kong Jiangsu Association, and guests from the Hong Kong Innovation and Trade Delegation, representatives of relevant departments of the CPC Jiangsu Committee and Jiangsu Provincial Government, representatives of entrepreneurs in Jiangsu, teachers and students of NJU gathered to exchange ideas on science and technology innovation and seek development for the future. The forum was hosted by Tan Zhemin, Academician of the CAS and President of NJU.
On behalf of NJU, Tan Tieniu extended a warm welcome to the guests. He said that in the critical period when Hong Kong is breaking new ground and making new leaps, it is timely and significant to jointly hold the Forum. He stressed that NJU will take the Forum as an opportunity to focus on three aspects: first, to further deepen cooperation between science and education; second, to further join hands with Hong Kong to tell Chinese stories well; third, to further play the role of a bridge and link and work with all sectors in Hong Kong to make positive contributions to the prosperity and stable development of Jiangsu, Hong Kong and the nation.
Will Yiu Mau Lung, on behalf of the Hong Kong Jiangsu Association, extended his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the attending guests. He introduced the Hong Kong Jiangsu Association and stated that the association attached special importance and attention to the cultivation of young people, actively promoting in-depth exchanges and cooperation between the two regions’ youth in fields such as innovation of science and technology.
He pointed out that Jiangsu has strong economic and talent advantages in the development of innovative science and technology, and NJU has a distinguished reputation in scientific and techonological researh. He stated that the Hong Kong Jiangsu Association will continue to play a role as a bridge and link for communication and cooperation between the two regions, further promoting exchanges and interactions in innovative talent cultivation and technology industrialization.
Hu Guangjie, on behalf of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, warmly congratulated the successful holding of the Forum. He stated that the cooperation and exchange between Jiangsu and Hong Kong have a long history. Currently, Hong Kong has become the seventh largest trading partner, the largest source of foreign investment, and the largest overseas investment destination of Jiangsu.
Tan Zhemin, Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Academician of the CAS, and president of Nanjing University, presided over the forum.
Lyu Jian, Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Academician of the CAS, and Former President of NJU, gave a keynote speech entitled “Exploration, Practice, and Challenges of a New Model for High Level Research Universities in the New Era.” He elaborated on the opportunities and challenges faced by higher education and innovation of science and technology in the new era in terms of goal orientation and problem analysis.
Academician Chan Ching-chuen, Former Member of the National Committee of CPPCC, Academician of the CAE, and Professor at the University of Hong Kong, delivered a keynote speech entitled “In the Spirit of Science: Challenges and Opportunities of the Energy Revolution and Travel Revolution in Jiangsu and Hong Kong.”
Liu Qing, President of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, delivered a keynote speech entitled “High Quality Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta: Talent Cultivation and Innovation Cooperation.”
Zhang Xiang gave a keynote speech entitled “Reinventing Education in the Digital Era,” explaining the changes that technological development has made in the field of education.
Sun Dong, Director of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s Bureau of Innovation of Science and Technology, and Xu Guanghui, Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, introduced, respectively, policies on science and technology innovation and suggestions for strengthening cooperation between the two regions.
