On March 30, James Heller, Consul General of the United States Consulate General at Shanghai, and his delegation visited NJU. Wang Zhenlin, Standing Member of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU, met with Heller at Gulou campus. An in-depth discussion was held on strengthening cooperation between NJU and American universities and enhancing cultural exchanges between China and the US. The head of the International Cooperation and Exchanges Office and the China US Cultural Research Center, and representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government attended the meeting.
Wang welcomed the visit of the Consul General. He introduced the recent development of NJU and reviewed a series of cooperation with US, represented by the Johns Hopkins University-NJU Center for American and Chinese Studies. He stressed that cultural exchanges between China and US are an important component of Sino-US relations, and that universities are not only pioneers of such exchanges, but also promoters of the development of bilateral relations. NJU will adhere to this tradition, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning with American universities, and promote win-win cooperation in Sino-US relations.
Heller expressed his appreciation of the positive contributions made by the JHU-NJU Center in the fields of cultural exchanges and public diplomacy between the two countries. He pointed out that promoting cultural and educational exchanges between China and US can help enhance mutual trust, consolidate consensus, encourage cooperation, and deepen friendship. He stated that the US Consulate General at Shanghai will continue to provide support and backing for bilateral exchanges between the two countries.
After the meeting, the Consul General and his delegation visited the JHU-NJU Center to exchange and interact with faculty and student representatives.
