On March 29, Nanjing University held a forum to recognize and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of its female members. Tan Tieniu, Secretary of CPC NJU Committee, attended the meeting and gave a speech. Zhu Jinsong, Secretary and Chairman of CPC Committee of the Jiangsu Women’s Association, Wang Ying, Academician of CAS and Professor at the School of Geography and Marine Science, and Xu Zhiqin, Academician of CAS and Professor at the School of Earth Science and Engineering also attended the conference.
In his speech, Tan pointed out that NJU has a distinguished tradition of pioneering the social revolution. Almost a century ago, one of Nanjing University’s predecessor institutions, Nanjing Higher Normal University, broke gender barriers by enrolling female students, laying the foundation for China’s co-education system.
Over the past 120 years, the university has produced a remarkable group of outstanding women whose heroic struggles and achievements have been documented in history and served as role models for all. The university’s achievements in various fields, including talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural heritage and innovation, and international cooperation, owe greatly to the contributions of its female faculty, students, and staff.
The current “Forging Ahead Initiative” also requires the active participation of women in the process. The NJU Women’s Association has initiated this conference to inspire and unite its women members to create another vibrant chapter in the university’s advancement.
As announced by National Women’s Association in the recent 2023 commendation list, the Teaching Affairs Service Center of the Undergraduate School of NJU has been awarded the “National Post of Female Excellence” Prize, while Professor Ma Jing from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Nanjing University has been awarded the title of “Model Female Worker”. Zhu Jinsong, Wang Ying, and Xu Zhiqin presented the awards to the respective units and individuals at the ceremony.
Award winners Ma Jing and Dong Ting, along with female faculty representative Gao Fang, delivered speeches at the conference. The meeting was chaired by Min Xueqin, Chairman of the NJU Women’s Association.
