On February 27 at Xianlin, the management meeting on the construction of NJU Suzhou Campus was held to review work progress and cooperation between NJU and Suzhou. Matters concerning the official opening of the new campus and other key tasks were discussed. Lyu Jian, President of NJU, chaired the meeting. Cao Lubao, Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, Tan Tieniu, Secretary of the CPC NJU Committee, and Wu Qingwen, Mayor of Suzhou, attended the meeting.
Cao expressed gratitude to NJU for supporting Suzhou’s development. He said that Suzhou, as an important source of undergraduates, has established a long-term cooperation with NJU and attracted NJU alumni to start up innovation and entrepreneurship programs. At the critical moment of the official opening NJU at Suzhou, the municipal government will fully support the campus construction and security, teacher development and student growth.
On behalf of NJU, Tan extended the warmest welcome to Cao and expressed sincere gratitude to the municipal government of Suzhou for its constant support. He said that the construction of NJU at Suzhou is one of the priorities in NJU’s “Forging Ahead Initiative.” He hoped NJU and Suzhou could work together to build NJU at Suzhou into a center for “new disciplines in engineering,” promote economic and social development, cultivate top-notch innovative talents and attract outstanding scholars worldwide.
Lyu Jian hoped that the two sides will take this meeting as a new starting point. Upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground, NJU at Suzhou will set a benchmark for the cooperation between university and local government and accelerate the construction of the “Unique NJU.”
Wu Qingwen promised that the municipal government of Suzhou puts the cooperation in an important position. It will facilitate the operation of the new campus and cater to the needs of the faculty and students there.
At the meeting, the preparatory establishment of four NJU research institutes was launched. They are the Institute of Modern Pharmacy and Engineering, Institute of Archaeology, Museology and Chinese Civilization, Institute of Space and Earth Sciences, and Institute of Global Intellectual Property.
The meeting also officially inaugurated three research centers related to data management and innovation, advanced control and intelligent operation and R&D, and visual computing and intelligent sensing, as well as two research platforms, namely Jiangsu Provincial Engineering and Technical Laboratory for Advanced Integrated Circuits and China Mobile-NJU Joint Laboratory on Cloud Computing. The two sides also launched the “Suzhou Innovative Talents” Program and the short-video collection Telling Stories about China in Foreign Languages.
Mao Wei, Secretary of the CPC Suzhou New District Committee, introduced the preparations for the operation of NJU at Suzhou. Tan Zhemin, Deputy President of NJU, talked about the connotation and work schedule of new campus operation.
Prior to the meeting, attendees visited NJU Spintronics and Nanodevice Laboratory, the Sensing and Imaging Engineering Center, and NJU exhibitions on global studies and arts.
