Tan Tieniu meets with Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong

On February 11 at Xianlin, Tan Tienu, Secretary of the CPC NJU Committee, met with the delegation led by Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC, Chairman of Hong Kong Sunwah Group and Life Honorary Chairman of Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong.



Tan extended his warm welcome to Choi and his delegation and briefly introduced them to Nanjing University. He pointed out that in NJU’s history of more than 120 years, its students, faculty, staff, and alumni have been adhering to the university motto of “Sincerity with Aspiration, Perseverance with Integrity,” the principle of cultivation of character and virtue through education, and a rigorous and pragmatic style of study, and have thus constituted brilliant achievements. On the 120th anniversary of Nanjing University, General Secretary Xi Jinping wrote an important reply to NJU’s young overseas returned scholars, pointing out the way for accelerating the construction of the Unique NJU, which is of milestone significance in the history of NJU. Currently, the University has been, in accordance with Xis instructions, fully implementing the tasks assigned by the 20th CPC National Congress, further strengthening its confidence and boosting its spirit in order to push the double first-class construction cause to a new height. He hoped that NJU and Choi’s enterprise could make joint efforts and wisdom to build a modern socialist country in an all-round way and advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Choi said that NJU is a century-old institution of higher education with great prestige and preeminence. With an advanced educational philosophy, NJU has cultivated lots of prominent talents and achieved brilliantly in scientific research, making important contributions to the prosperity of the country and the revitalization of the nation. Based on the sincere partnership between his Group and the University, he looked forward to further cooperation and joint progress to tell well the stories of Hong Kong and NJU. He said that NJU has embarked on a new journey of another 120 years and wished the University new achievements in the construction of "double first-class".

Choi and his delegation visited the History Museum of NJU to experience its profound heritage and the achievements of its construction in the new era. They were accompanied by Zou Yajun, Standing Member of the CPC NJU Committee and Vice President of NJU, and other officials of Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, Office of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs and Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
