The "Frontiers of Applied Linguistics Research" Summer School at Nanjing University's School of Liberal Arts will be held from July 8th to July 12th at Nanjing University (Xianlin Campus). Registration is now open. Please find registration details below:
01 Enrollment Target
Master's and Ph.D. students, as well as young scholars, in relevant fields of linguistics (including majors in linguistics and applied linguistics, Chinese international education, Chinese language, etc.), both domestic and international, with a certain level of proficiency in English.
02 Registration time
From now until June 10th, 2024.
03 Registration Process
Download and fill out the registration form attached to the end of this announcement, then submit it via email to the organizing committee at njuyyx2024@163.com by 24:00 on June 10th, 2024. Only email submissions will be accepted; registrations via phone or other methods will not be considered.
04 Admission Notification
Admission notifications will be sent via email around June 15th, 2024. Please keep an eye on your inbox.
05 Certificate Issuance
Participants who attend all sessions and meet the requirements will receive a certificate upon successful completion.
06 Course Schedule
The summer school will cover topics in sociolinguistics, Chinese as a second language teaching and research, emphasizing internationalization, interdisciplinary approaches, and cutting-edge research.
07 Faculty
The main lecturers are Professor Martha Bigelow and Professor Kendall King from the University of Minnesota. The summer school is organized by Associate Professor Wang Ling, director of Applied linguistics M.A. and PhD Programme at Nanjing University's School of Liberal Arts.
Dr. Martha Bigelow
Professor of Second Language Education at the University of Minnesota, Director of the Second Language Acquisition Program and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. She serves as a board member of the American Association for Applied Linguistics and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Her primary research interests include second language curriculum and pedagogy, language, identity, and schooling. Dr. Bigelow has published over 60 papers in SSCI journals, has led more than 10 major projects, and has authored numerous books.
Dr. Kendall King
Professor of Second Language Education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and Graduate Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She previously served as president of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) and coordinator for Second Language Education (C&I) and the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). Her main research areas include family language planning, bilingualism, and language education planning. She serves as an editor for Language Policy and a review editor for Language and Education, and is a member of editorial boards and advisory committees for several renowned academic journals. Dr. King has published over 60 papers in SCI journals, has led more than 10 major projects, and has authored multiple monographs.

The summer school is free of charge and runs for 5 consecutive days (with no breaks), with 3 hours of class in the morning and afternoon each day. Please arrange your schedule accordingly.
As seats are limited, if you are unable to attend after receiving an admission notice, please inform us promptly so that we can allocate the spot to another student in need. Once confirmed, attendance to all summer school activities is expected.
