On 8 December, the 2023 “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students came to a successful conclusion. Undergraduates and postgraduates from NJU School of Foreign Studies demonstrated outstanding performance in the competition of both English and multilingual groups, and won a total of 7 gold awards (including 2 champions, 1 runner-up and 2 third-place winners) and 5 silver awards.
The “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students was organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University, and hosted by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP). The theme of this year’s contest is “Understanding China, Communicating with the World.”
The contest comprises two major groups, namely the English group and the multilingual group. It has gone through three stages, the school-level competition, the provincial-level competition and the national-level competition. Nearly one million college students from over 1,300 universities and colleges participated in this event, showcasing their competency in nine foreign languages, including English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabian, Japanese, Italian and Portuguese.
After the contest commenced, the School of Foreign Studies actively organized its students’ participation in the event. Several teachers dedicated themselves to coaching and guiding the students for the competition. Approximately 20 students progressed to the provincial-level stage, with 4 students from the English Department and 8 students from other language departments advancing to the national final competitions.
In recent years, the School of Foreign Studies has been dedicated to nurtuiring exceptional foreign language talents with a global perspective and multidisciplinary skills.
