On December 2, the inaugural ceremony of the Jiangsu Province Law Society’s Foreign-related Rule of Law Research Association and the 2023 annual conference of Jiangsu Province Law Society were held at Nanjing University. The theme of the conference was “Promoting High-Quality Development of the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative through Foreign-related Rule of Law.” NJU Law School co-organized the event.
Professor Hu Xiaohong from NJU Law School, the newly elected President of the Association, stated in her speech that the Association aims to support the establishment of a theoretical system for foreign-related legal studies, and unify the strength of its members to make positive contributions to the construction of foreign-related rule of law in China and Jiangsu Province.
In his remarks, Chen Yunsong, Deputy Secretary of NJU Party Committee, expressed his hope that the association will contribute to accelerate the construction of China’s foreign-related legal system, offer professional legal advice for decision-making and policymaking within the government, and bolster talent development in the field of foreign-related rule of law.
Zhou Jiye, President of the Jiangsu Province Law Society, emphasized the importance of delving deeper into theoretical research and exploring the forefront issues concerning foreign-related rule of law in his address. He stressed the significance of continuously advancing the high-quality development of the Association, hoping that the Association would actively participate in the construction of China’s foreign-related rule of law.
Additionally, Professor Li Ming from Peking University Law School and Executive Vice President of the Chinese Society of International Law, along with other experts and scholars, delivered keynote speeches on the conference theme.
Representatives attending the conference engaged in extensive and in-depth discussions on various topics, including the interaction between foreign-related rule of law and international law, talent development in foreign-related rule of law amidst legal reforms both in China and abroad, and the theoretical and practical aspects of foreign-related rule of law in the digital era. More than 200 representatives from universities, research institutes, the judiciary, government departments, and the legal profession from both inside and outside the province, participated in the conference.
