On the afternoon of October 19, 2023, Scott Walker, the U.S. Consul General in Shanghai, and his delegation visited Nanjing University. They were received by Ding Aijun, Associate Vice President of NJU, at the Gulou Campus. Representatives from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, the School of Arts, and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges were also in attendance.
Ding Aijun extended a warm welcome to Consul General Scott Walker and his delegation. He briefly introduced NJU’s history, educational and research achievements, and its collaborations with various institutes and universities in the United States, exemplified by the Hopkins-Nanjing Center and the School of Arts. He emphasized that NJU is committed to further expand its global outreach, and promote people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States through joint efforts.
Consul General Scott Walker acknowledged NJU’s contributions to Sino-U.S. exchanges, especially the Hopkins-Nanjing Center which is jointly run by NJU and the Johns Hopkins University. He expressed hopes that both sides would continuously actively promote educational and youth exchanges to achieve mutually beneficial cooperation.
During his visit, Consul General Scott Walker also toured the Pearl S. Buck Memorial Hall at NJU, attended the open ceremony of the “Richard Brettell’s Memorial Reading Room” at the School of Arts, and joined discussions with faculty and students at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center.
