Sino-Singapore International Collaborative Innovation Center for Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Resource Reuse launched

On the morning of October 10, China-Singapore Joint Flagship Project “Sino-Singapore International Collaborative Innovation Center for Industrial Wastewater Treatment and Resource Reuse” was officially launched at the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre.  As a Chinese national key R&D program, the Project is a collaborative effort between Nanjing University and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Lu Yanqing, Vice President of NJU, and Li Aimin, Professor of the School of Environment at NJU and the Chinese Director of the Project attended the ceremony. The launching ceremony was presided over by Wang Rong, the Singaporean Director of the Project, Professor at NTU and Fellow of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore.

Distinguished guests at the launching ceremony included Fang Wei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Yu Haiying, Science and Technology Councilor of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Cai Denghe, Consul General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai, Ling San, Deputy President of NTU, Lam Khin Yong, Vice President of NTU, Louis Phee, Vice President of NTU, and Tim White, Vice President of NTU.

During the Ceremony, Li Aimin and Wang Rong respectively introduced the flagship project. Li Aimin underscored that the flagship project fully capitalizes on the scientific and technological strengths of both Chinese and Singaporean research teams in toxic pollutant control technology and membrane technology, which will play a pivotal role in addressing the global issue of industrial organic wastewater treatment and recycling. Wang Rong emphasized that the Singapore side will contribute cutting-edge membrane technology and biotechnology to advance research within the flagship project, thereby fostering mutually beneficial collaboration between China and Singapore.

The China-Singapore Flagship Project represents a significant international collaborative effort initiated  by both nations. The cooperation agreement was officially signed in April of this year, witnessed by  the prime ministers of both countries. The project aims to establish a comprehensive technology center for the treatment and recycling of industrial organic wastewater, ultimately cultivating a global hub for industrial technology innovation in this domain. This endeavor will provide essential technical support for sustainable development in China, Singapore, and the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

During his visit to Singapore, Vice President Lu Yanqing also visited NTU, the National University of Singapore, and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), engaging in discussions and knowledge exchange with global talents.
