Zhang Yibin, chancellor of Nanjing University, was invited by FreieUniversität Berlin and George-August-University of Göttingen to attend the forum on Sino-German Higher Education and Scientific Innovation, held in Berlin from November 24 to 28.
Liu Yandong, vice premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, also attended the forum and delivered a speech.
During his visit, Chancellor Zhang met with Casper-Hehne, vice chancellor of George-August-University of Göttingen, and with Margit Zacharias, vice chancellor of Albert-Ludwigs University. Both universities have been close partners of Nanjing University in Germany.
Zhang also issued the graduation certificate to the representative of the first group of graduates from the Nanjing University’s joint master’s program on Chinese Law and Comparative Law Study.
The forum on Sino-German Higher Education and Scientific Innovation was held in FreieUniversität Berlin on November 25.
Zhang Yibin, chancellor of Nanjing University, along with 60 other leaders of top universities from China and Germany, gathered to discuss how to make first-class academic achievements through scientific innovation and educational cooperation.

Liu Yandong, vice premier of the State Council, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Also attending the forum was Wan Gang, vice chair of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Minister of Science and Technology, along with other ministerial leaders.
Present at the forum were largely leaders of both Germany’s top universities, including FreieUniversität Berlin, Albert-Ludwigs University, TechnischeUniversitätMünchen, George-August-University of Göttingen and University of Bremen, and those of China’s top universities, which keep a close cooperative partnership with the German counterpart, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Wuhan University.
Through heated discussion, the forum increased the mutual understanding between the universities of the two countries and encouraged the two sides to seize opportunities in the practice of the Elite University Program and the Double First-Rate Program to further strengthen scientific study and education, enhancing the two country’s international influence.

During his visit to Germany, Chancellor Zhang had a meeting with Casper-Hehne, vice chancellor of George-August-University of Göttingen, which is the closest German partner of Nanjing University. The two sides reached consensus on continuing the support for cooperation in the fields of law, Germanic studies, economics, and information technology and discussed how to make full use of resources in both countries to support the steady growth of the program on High-Level German Language Classes.

Chancellor Zhang also had a meeting with Von der Heyden, former Consul General from the Consulate General of Germany in Shanghai on November 26.

Zhang extended his gratitude to the support Von der Heyden had given during his term for the development of the Research Center of Chinese and German Laws and the Program of High-Level German Language Classes.
Heyden said that Nanjing is the city which he likes and misses a lot and he will continue to promote the cultural and educational exchange between the two countries.
Finally, in the presence of former Consul General Heyden, Chancellor Zhang issued the graduation certificate to Martineck, a German student from the first batch of graduates from Nanjing University’s joint master’s program with Göttingen University on Chinese Law and Comparative Law Study.
