​Lyu Jian Meets French University Head to Renew Ties

President Lyu Jian met with Ary Bruand, president of the University of Orléans in France, and his delegation and renewed the agreement on the cooperation between the two universities when the French guests were visiting Nanjing University on September 25.

President Lyu extended a warm welcome to the French guests on behalf of Nanjing University and then reviewed the history of the cooperation between the two universities.

He briefed the delegation on the achievements of Nanjing University under the “Double First-Class” (first-class universities and first-class disciplines) Plan and expressed his hope that the two sides will take the cooperation in earth sciences as a starting point and continue to expand and deepen the cooperation in personnel training and scientific research.

President Bruand recalled the remarkable achievements made by the two universities in the field of earth sciences through the efforts of a group of scholars represented by Professor Chen Yan and briefed President Lyu on the characteristics of the University of Orléans with its strengths in science and engineering disciplines.

He spoke highly of the partnership with Nanjing University, which he regarded as one of the most important partners of the University of Orléans outside Europe.

He also hoped that the two universities will continue to deepen their cooperation in more ways and in more fields.

On behalf of the two universities respectively, Presidents Lyu Jian and AryBruand signed the agreement on renewed comprehensive cooperation to continue the fine tradition of cooperation and lay a foundation for further cooperation between the two universities

The agreement was signed under the witness of Luigi Agrofoglio, vice chancellor of foreign affairs of the University of Orléans, Fabien Chareix, educational consul of the French Consulate in Shanghai, and leaders of the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Nanjing University.

Then, Assistant President Pu Lijie presided over a meeting at which the representatives of the two universities exchanged ideas on specific forms of cooperation in earth sciences and chemistry.

The meeting planned to start further cooperation with long-term and short-term faculty exchange, student exchange, research cooperation and so on.
