Vice President Zou Yajun led Nanjing University delegation attended the opening ceremony of the League of Universities for the 21st-Century Maritime Silk-Road, held at Xiamen University on December 18, 2017.

Also attending the ceremony were delegates from other 17 universities in eight different countries including USA, Indonesia, New Zealand, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey and China.

At the ceremony, the League of Universities issued a proposal on its establishment.

Vice President Zou Yajun said in his speech that guided by the Belt and Road Initiative, Nanjing University has already made achievements in publication, platform building, student exchange and joint research with other universities.

The Belt and Road Initiative is an important part of building a human community of shared destiny, said Zou, and education plays a key role in achieving the goal.

As an open and mutually-beneficial international platform, the League of Universities for the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road will provide its members with opportunities for joint planning and efforts.

Being one of the founding members of the League, Nanjing University will work closely with other member universities.

At the ceremony, the NJU delegates also held in-depth discussion on matters of cooperation with representatives of other member universities including University of Dayton, USA.

Leaders of the university’s office of international cooperation and exchange also attended the ceremony.
