NJU Delegation Visits Germany

Nanjing University delegation, led by Yang Zhong, executive deputy secretary of the university’s CPC committee, visited Germany’s Göttingen and Frankfurt from October 8 to 10.

On the morning of the 9th, Yang Zhong met with Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, vice president of the University of Göttingen.

The two sides briefed each other on the latest development in each school and explored the possibilities of cooperation in economics, environmental sciences and other interdisciplinary fields.

Yang said that the Göttingen University is a world-renowned institution and also one of the most important international partners of Nanjing University. This year coincides with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of cooperative relations between the two universities, the 30th anniversary of the joint establishment of the Chinese-German Law Institute by the two universities, and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute of Göttingen University. He hopes that the two sides will take this opportunity to continue, expand and deepen the bilateral cooperation.

On the afternoon of the 9th, Yang Zhong, Hiltraud Casper-Hehne and Yuan Jun, vice president of Beijing Foreign Studies University, attended the board meeting of Göttingen University’s Confucius Institute.

Yang highly regarded the work of the Confucius Institute over the past two years and hoped that it will do still better in the coming five and ten years.

The meeting reviewed and approved the institute’s 2018 work report, the 2019 and future work plans, and the final accounts and budgets.

The participants also had a heated discussion on how the Confucius institute can further strengthen its academic characteristics, attract and obtain resources, and carry out academic and cultural activities. Various suggestions were put forward.

In the evening, to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Göttingen University’s Confucius Institute, Yang Zhong and other board members joined local residents at the concert given by Nanjing University’s Folk Orchestra.

The concert received enthusiastic response from the audience.

On October 10, Yang Zhong had a meeting with Consul General Sun Congbin at the Chinese Consulate General in Frankfurt.

Yang briefed the work of Nanjing University, with a focus on the university’s policy and achievements in cooperation and exchange with German partners.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude to the consulate general for the support it gives to the university, and he hoped to continue to receive guidance and assistance from the consulate general in the university’s future cooperation with its German partners.

Sun Congbin had high regards for Nanjing University’s work in educational and cultural exchange between China and Germany. He hoped that Nanjing University will play a greater role in attracting German students to China to study and said that the consulate general is quite willing to strengthen its cooperation with the university.

Later, Sun Congbin, Yang Zhong and the staff of the consulate general enjoyed the performance of Nanjing University Folk Orchestra.

The leaders in charge of the Chinese-German Institute of Law and the Confucius Institute Office were also on the delegation.
