​CPC NJU Secretary Meets Korean University Head to Boost Ties

Nanjing University’s Party secretary Hu Jinbo met with President Sanggi Min, of Konkuk University, South Korea, and his delegation during their visit to the university’s Xianlin Campus on April 9, 2019.

The two sides expressed their satisfactions on the successful and comprehensive cooperation between the two universities in promoting talent cultivation and scientific research over the past ten years and discussed plans of expanding cultural and art exchanges in the next step.

Present at the meeting were representatives of Nanjing University’s library, Institute for International Students, Business School, Department of Korean (of the School of Foreign Studies), and Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges.

On behalf of Nanjing University, Hu extended warm welcome to President Sanggi Min’s first visit and noted that Konkuk University is a traditional partner of Nanjing University and the two universities have maintained close and cooperative relations over the past ten years.

Hu also noted that the leaderships of the two universities regularly exchange visits and have established liaison offices at both universities.

Hu stressed that fruitful achievements have been made in student cultivation as many Konkuk University students have engaged in the double-major undergraduate program the two universities have been offering in International Trade and Korean Language and Literature since 2012.

Hu expressed gratitude to the former and incumbent leaders and chairpersons of Konkuk University for their concern for the cooperation between the two universities and hoped to explore more areas of substantive research cooperation with Konkuk University under the leadership of President Min so as to make contributions to the future bilateral talent cultivation and cultural exchanges between China and Korea.

President Min expressed special gratitude to Nanjing University, first, for the substantial support given by Nanjing University for former Konkuk University chairperson Kyung-Hee Kim’s “My Dream, My Love- Kyung-Hee Kim Invitation Exhibition” at Nanjing University Museum last year and, second, for Nanjing University’s constant input in the joint double-major undergraduate program for students, especially the collaborative, timely and effective settlement of problems by multiple departments of the university when the program encountered difficulties.

Min suggested that the future cooperation expand to joint cultivation of talents on the master and doctoral levels in science and engineering.

Min also said that Konkuk University alumnus and president of Random House Korea (RHK) Eric Yang intends to donate 10,000 Korean books to Nanjing University, and he hoped to facilitate the donation on this visit.

In the afternoon, Vice President Wang Zhenlin also met the delegation and discussed in detail the plan of cooperation on expanding student cultivation to master and doctoral levels. He noted that Nanjing University is willing to explore various forms of cooperation with Konkuk University, and he expressed his appreciation to President Min for the support he has been giving to the cooperation between the two universities since he took office.

After the meeting, the delegation visited Nanjing University Library on Xianlin Campus and enjoyed “the First Chinese Printmaking Exhibition.”
